Leaf and bark removal is one of the most consistent recurring jobs at Mount Burnett. The surrounding messmate and stringybark shed bark in long fibrous strips through December–February, which accumulates heavily in gutters, on valley flashings and against the base of structures. Wattle species drop smaller leaf and twig material year-round. Autumn brings a secondary flush from any ornamental deciduous trees (ash, liquid amber, pin oaks) on the residential lots. Gutter clearing at this elevation is a fire-safety issue as well as a maintenance one: bark litter in gutters is ignition-risk material during high fire danger periods. Two clears per year, post-summer bark shed and post-autumn leaf fall, is the practical minimum for hilltop properties with canopy trees.
